The Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary

Visit. Experience. Protect.

Step into the world of lions and be part of protecting their future.
Your stay supports the care of rescued lions and the ongoing work of the sanctuary.

The Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary is a place of care, respect, and conservation.

Here, lions rescued from the captive industry are given a place of care and dignity while we work toward restoring wild spaces through rehabilitation, rewilding, and the expansion of protected landscapes.

Why Your Visit Matters

Visits like yours contribute to supporting the sanctuary.

The Sanctuary

This is not a traditional wildlife experience. It is a space built on connection, understanding, and respect for wild animals. We are working toward a future where conservation goes beyond sanctuary care, into habitat expansion and rewilding.

Every stay helps provide:

  • Daily care for rescued lions
  • Protection and maintenance of their habitat
  • Support for conservation and education programmes
  • Ongoing work toward a future where lions can thrive in the wild

By choosing to visit, you are directly contributing to their wellbeing and future.

Experience the Wild
Support the Mission

About an hour from Johannesburg and 50 minutes from Pretoria, the Kevin Richardson Foundation Reserve lies within Dinokeng Game Reserve, nestled between the Bobbejaansberge mountains and Boekenhoutspruit. It’s home to the Wildlife Sanctuary—a safe haven for rescued African carnivores.

A Lifelong Home for Lions, Leopards & Hyenas

Led by Kevin Richardson, the Sanctuary provides permanent care for animals that cannot be returned to the wild.

With rotating enclosures, enrichment walks, world-class veterinary care, and spacious terrain, every animal is treated with dignity and purpose.

More Than a Sanctuary
A Vision for the Future

Now evolving into a rehabilitation and rewilding centre, the Sanctuary is shifting focus to prepare wild carnivores and other species for a return to natural habitats, guided by a strict no-replacement policy and over 25 years of ethical wildlife care.

Visit. Learn
Be Inspired

Through guided tours and educational programs, guests gain a deeper understanding of Africa’s large carnivores and the urgent threats they face; from habitat loss and poaching to unethical hunting and the illegal wildlife trade.

Support the Sanctuary

Not everyone can visit, but everyone can be part of this journey.

If you feel called to support the work we do, there are other ways to contribute to the protection of lions and their future. Your support helps us care for lions who depend on us, while also advancing the conservation work needed to protect lions in the wild.

With gratitude for your care for our wildlife.
